Mark Garland, P.E.
President
Mark has over 30 years of construction experience in Canada, the Continental US, Alaska, Asia and New Zealand. He holds a Bachelors in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, and is a Licensed Civil Engineer. Mark is a co-inventor of a patented method to construct concrete shear cores for high rise office buildings. Mark specializes in design and construction advice during the predevelopment phase of real estate projects.
Hugh Kidd, P.Eng
Executive Vice President
Hugh received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and is a licensed professional engineer. His background in the construction field includes Project Management and Operations Management, spanning over 30 years. Throughout his construction management career, Hugh has delivered projects of various scales in many sectors , including commercial and residential design and construction, including office buildings, hotels, high rise condominiums and corporate data centres.
Shaoyong Shen
Senior Vice President
A LEED Green Associate and PMP, Shaoyong’s experience is founded in site project management and estimating. Shaoyong comes from a family with a long history in construction, and has been a professional in the industry for ten years. His project experience includes a wide range of construction sectors, including multifamily residential, office buildings and commercial.
Zale Spodek
Senior Vice President
Zale is a LEED AP and PMP certified Project Manager with 30 years professional experience in the construction industry. Formally trained as an Architect and registered with the Ontario Association of Architects, Zale received his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from University of Toronto. He brings a multifaceted perspective of the industry to his projects at GCL Builds, having functioned as an Architect at a high profile architecture firm, and then functioning for several years as a Senior Contract Administrator. Zale’s project experience includes large scale mixed use developments, healthcare projects and high rise multifamily residential.
Peter Carello
Senior Vice President
Peter is a highly trained construction professional with 30 years of experience building large scale, multifamily residential and mixed use developments. He has an expert approach to delivering high quality, multi-million dollar construction projects and supervising high performing construction teams. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Science from Ryerson University.
Alexis London
Office Manager
Alexis oversees Human Resources, Information Technology, internal communications, daily office operations and company functions. She has been with GCL Builds since 2017.
Mahin Birgani
Accounting Manager
Mahin manages the accounting department, managing payroll and accounts payable/receivable. She has been with GCL Builds since 2007.
