GCL Builds wants to be an active contributor to the vitality and services offered by the GHTA communities in which we work. When we land a new project, our bidders list is revised to include local, qualified trade contractor candidates.
We support a number of Canadian charities, or nonprofit organizations, with monthly donations. These organizations currently include the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the Salvation Army, Woodgreen Community Services, Daily Bread Food Bank, and Stella’s Place. A component of our employee benefits program are matching contributions from the company to the charities and nonprofit organizations which our employees choose to support. Our company culture and policies assist to make all of our employees good contributors to their communities.
We are always interested in other ways we can support the communities in which we work. Initiated in 2020 and completed in 2022, GCL Builds led the renovation of an existing three storey office building at 54 Wolesley Street in downtown Toronto. The building was converted via a substantial transformation into the new home for Stella’s Place Assessment and Treatment Center. The project and construction management services were performed on a pro bono basis, greatly benefiting Stella’s Place. Designed by Stantec, the new facility received an international award for outstanding mental health clinic design. Stella’s place operates as a drop in centre for young adults, ages 16 to 29.
